The Sonora Attachment Parenting Meetup Group

The phrase "attachment parenting" was coined by Dr. Sears, but basically refers to what is--for most parents--an instinctual method of parenting. Attachment parenting is the attitude that one's child should be treated with consideration and respect whether s/he is 2 or 20. Most AP families observe seven "B" precepts of AP as outlined by Dr. Sears: birth bonding, breastfeeding, baby wearing, bedding close to baby, believing in the language value of your baby's cry, beware of baby trainers, balance. While it is not always possible for families to practice each B, AP families do agree with them philosophically even when their specific situation makes practice difficult.

Parents who allow their children to "cry it out" or who subscribe to methods of baby training (i.e. Babywise or Ferber) are NOT practicing attachment parenting, even if they do some of the other B's.

We have open membership and exist to provide an opportunity for like-minded parents (and their children) to socialize. Most of our members are mothers of young children, but dads, other primary caregivers, expectant parents, and AP parents of older children are all welcome.

We are not associated with API.
